The towpath along the Vire is a 55 km cycle path of the Voie verte type between Pont-Farcy and Saint-Fromond. Those who choose Pont-Farcy as a destination because of the Vire and its history may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Cycle paths
The La Vélomaritime route runs from Pont-Farcy via small roads through the Bocage Virois to Vire. One stage from Condé-sur-Vire to Pont-Farcy follows the towpath along the Vire and then reaches Pont-Farcy. An official cycle route also leads from Pont-Farcy to the Viaduc de la Souleuvre near La Ferrière-Harang.
Nature and hiking
The Gorges de la Vire between Campeaux and Pont-Farcy comprise wooded hills. The sunken lanes in the Gorges de la Vire between Campeaux and Pont-Farcy are suitable for hiking. The seventh stage of the Rando des Haras nationaux connects Bény-Bocage with Pont-Farcy over 22 km, divided into two sections of 10 and 12 km.
Water on the Vire
The Base des Gorges de la Vire offers various canoe trips and kayaking tours on sections of the river. Pedal boating and stand-up paddleboarding are possible on the lake at the Pont-Farcy campsite. The Camping municipal des Bords de Vire is located on the banks of the Vire near Pont-Farcy in Tessy-Bocage.
History and culture
The Bailey bridge stands on the banks of the Vire near Pont-Farcy along the towpath. The Bailey bridge near Pont-Farcy was built from parts that had been used for the artificial harbour at Arromanches after 6 June 1944.
The history of Pont-Farcy dates back to Gallo-Roman times. Pont-Farcy was a ford across the Vire that was used, among others, by pilgrims on their way to Mont Saint-Michel. Port-Farcy was an important inland port for a time.
The fishing association of Pont-Farcy is listed among the most important fishing associations in the Pays-de-Vire area.
