Culture
The Grand Hôtel de Houlgate was completed in 1858 and listed as a historic monument in 2000; the former Grand Hôtel de Houlgate is part of the town’s seaside resort heritage.
The Roland Garros Promenade was named after the aviator Roland Garros in 1988. On 6 September 1912, he took off from the beach in front of the “Les Mouettes” villa in an attempt to break the world altitude record of 4,900 metres.
The Terre de Jeux 2024 route winds between stairways and villas and provides access to Houlgate’s cultural heritage.

Nature
The Vaches-Noires cliffs are a remarkable natural area designated as a ZNIEFF. They stretch across Houlgate, Gonneville-sur-Mer, Auberville and Villers-sur-Mer in the Calvados département of Normandy.
Access to the Vaches-Noires cliffs is prohibited; however, they can be viewed from the beach.
A 12 km discovery trail for the Vaches-Noires cliffs is available to download and at the tourist offices.

Houlgate Plein Vent is an international kite festival held annually in Houlgate. The festival offers introductory and kite-building workshops.
