Auvillars Between History and Apple Culture

Auvillars reveals traces of its history in its church, brickworks, and manor house. The choir of the Église Saint-Germain dates from the 12th century. The church is fully registered as a historic monument; this protection has been in place since 17 July 1926.

History and Craftsmanship

The village's history includes the “Briqueterie” brickworks in the Forge à Planche district of Auvillars. It was built in 1879; drying rooms and a shed were added in 1933. In 1937, the Briqueterie d'Auvillars produced facing bricks, hollow bricks, and drainage pipes. Around 1970, the Briqueterie ceased operations. Parts of the buildings were subsequently demolished, including the buildings containing the kiln, leaving industrial remains behind.

The Manoir de La Bruyère also preserves several historic elements. Its press dates from the late 15th century. The façades and roofs of the Manoir de La Bruyère and the press building, as well as the press itself and its mechanism, are registered as historic monuments. The garden of the Manoir de La Bruyère was registered as a historic monument by decree of 16 June 2008.

Culinary Delights

In Auvillars, the Ferme de la vallée au tanneur is a traditional producer on the Route du Cidre. The farm fully processes produce from 20 varieties of apples and pears. For groups of at least eight people, the Ferme de la vallée au tanneur offers a tour lasting approximately one hour and a free tasting.

Out and About

The “Au départ d'Auvillars” route starts at the church car park and leads through shady sections of woodland with some climbs.
