Culture

The Church of Saint Martin was extensively restored and repointed; the work was completed in 2010. It reflects the Flemish “hallekerque” architectural style. Its features include an operational and fully functional organ, as well as historic listed furnishings, most of which are made of Danish oak.

History

Audruicq Castle is an 18th-century residence built on the foundations of a former 11th-century fortress. Parts of the original defensive moats can still be seen in the park today.

The former Audruicq foundry was established in 1876 and produced thousands of castings that were shipped throughout France and to most industrialized countries. Today, a renovated row of corons remains.

Trails

The Audruicq Trail is a hiking route that begins at the Place du Général de Gaulle. It is 10 km long and has a 2 km variant.

The Jonnart Bridge became known as the “Swimmers’ Bridge” because most young people from Audruicq learned to swim there.

Markets and traditions

The Marché d’Audruicq takes place on Wednesdays from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Place du Général de Gaulle and the Place des Marronniers. The municipality describes it as one of the largest markets in the region. Products on offer include fresh meat, fish, vegetables, cheese, regional products and prepared foods. The market also includes a poultry and small-animal market with chickens, roosters, chicks, rabbits and ducks.

The summer market of the Marché d’Audruicq takes place on Fridays in July and August at the Place des Marronniers. Local producers, craftspeople and creatives are represented there, along with musical or festive events. The Comice Agricole d’Audruicq takes place every year two weeks before Easter.
