Culture
A prominent cultural site is the belfry of Saint-Pol-sur-Mer: it was inaugurated in 2003 and has a carillon with thirteen bells. The belfry's four Jacquemarts are each 1.80 metres high. The Maison du Patrimoine is located in the belfry at Place du Chevalier de Saint Pol. It offers guided tours of Saint-Pol-sur-Mer's cultural heritage as well as exhibitions.
The remains of the Jean Bart lock can be seen in Parc Jacobsen. The lock was built in 1715 at the mouth of the Canal de Mardyck.
The Médiathèque Emile Zola also combines several cultural offerings. Its Artothèque contains more than 400 works of art, including prints, screen prints and framed photographs, which are available to take home or view on site. The Médiathèque is part of the Les Balises library network of the Dunkerque agglomeration. It can be reached on DK Bus route C2 to the Mairie stop.
Activities
The “La Balade d'Edmond” Mémoire rally follows in the footsteps of a railway worker and takes you through the Cité as it used to be. Historical panels help answer the questions; the question booklet is available from the Maison du Patrimoine in the belfry at Place du Chevalier de Saint Pol. The rally can be completed alone, with family or with friends.
An orienteering course is also offered in Parc Jacobsen.
