Trails
The 13-kilometre circular route Circuit des Chapelles et des ailles begins at Ohain Town Hall and takes 3 hours and 45 minutes. It consists of two loops with a shared starting and finishing point, passes through bocage landscapes and follows the edge of the Fagne de Trélon forest. Along the way, it passes the Chapelle-Colonne du Saint-Sang-de-Jésus from 1837 and the Chapelle du Grand Dieu in Ohain, a stone-and-brick oratory with two pink-stone pillars. The chapel dates from the late 17th century.
Culture and History
The oldest surviving written mention of Ohain dates from 8 December 1180. The Église Saint-Martin in Ohain was built from grey stone between 1843 and 1845. The chapel traditionally known as “l'église de paille” was dedicated to Saint Martin.
South of the Chapelle du Grand-Dieu, Neolithic finds were excavated in 1895 in the municipality of Ohain, including a kiln, an axe and pottery. The Calvaire au Trieux de Melsart is one of Ohain’s religious heritage sites. The Égayoir in Ohain was built in 1833 as a horseshoe-shaped structure in the centre of the village and is a trough made of hewn blue stone.
