Culture and history
The ancient Roman road Chaussée Brunehaut runs through Naves. The D114 follows this road there towards Bavay.
Near the cemetery of Naves stands a Calvary in a small chapel made of hewn stone; its base is made of Tournai stone. The Calvary of Naves was erected in 1850 following the 1849 cholera epidemic. In the past, a procession took place there on Whit Monday.
The Church of Saint Paul has an 18th-century bell-tower porch; the rest of the building dates from 1925, after the building had been completely destroyed during the First World War. It is decorated with polychrome bricks and mosaics. The choir is adorned with an Art Deco-style cross and a golden mosaic background.
The Chapel of Saint Roch was built in 1818 at the request of Henriette Soyez, the wife of the mayor at the time. A Corpus Christi procession used to take place at the chapel.
The Ferme des Boutriaux was built in 1460 and restored in the Flemish style in 1695. The Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lourdes was built in 1933 on the site of a chapel dating from 1680 that had been destroyed during the First World War.
Since the Chaussée Brunehaut runs through Naves, the HISTOIRE ET CULTURE association created the giant figure Brunéhaut in 2000; it was christened in 2001. According to the inscription beside the door, the hexagonal Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Hal was built in 1666 and rebuilt stone by stone after suffering severe damage during the Second World War. The Ferme Soyez preserves a brick dovecote believed to date from the 17th century.
