Soulomès combines evidence of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance with a church, a geocaching trail and distinctive landmarks in the surrounding area of the village.

Culture and history

The commandery in Soulomès belonged to the Order of the Hospital since the end of the 13th century. Between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, it was the residence of the commander.

The Sainte-Madeleine church in Soulomès was built in the 12th century. The Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church was painted in two campaigns during the first half of the 16th century.

The choir and nave of the church in Soulomès contain tempera paintings depicting several biblical and historical scenes: the disbelief of Thomas, the Descent from the Cross, the homage of a Knight of Malta to his feudal lord, Christ as the gardener, Mary Magdalene, the Entombment and the Ascension.

Cycling route and geocaching

On its return to the Causse, the Boucle du Vers en Géocaching passes through Soulomès. It is signposted with cycling circuit signs bearing the letter A.

The geocaching game of the Boucle du Vers uses an accompanying booklet and, optionally, a GPS device or smartphone. These can be used to find four virtual caches and one physical final cache.

Also in the wider regional area around Soulomès are La Grâce-Dieu, a historical site in Leyme, France, the Cathédrale Saint-Étienne as a church and the Pech de Dreuilles as a hill.

Just before the village of Soulomès, the remains of two windmills stand on a rise in the Causse. A 200-metre-long path from the crossroads offers a panorama of the Causse and the village of Soulomès.
