Culture
Traces of Montredon’s former trading activity have been preserved in the centre of the village.
The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié houses a carved wooden triptych made by Abbé Bonal in 1967. The chapel in Montredon, with its 16th-century Pietà , is also located along the GR®65.
The Church of Saint Michael has a nave with six bays, vaulted side aisles and a bell tower with paired pointed-arch openings. Inside are three figurative stained-glass windows commemorating the Croix des trois évêques. For the church’s reconstruction, a project with plans and cost estimates drawn up by Hippolyte Poujade was prepared on 6 March 1875.
The Croix des trois évêques was erected in Montredon on 31 July 1949, at the meeting point of the territories of the three neighbouring dioceses of Cahors, Rodez and Saint-Flour.
In Poustans stands the Church of Sainte-Madeleine, with a square-ended chancel, a bell tower rising above it and a ribbed vault; the nave, by contrast, is covered only by a ceiling. The corbels beneath the ribbed vault are sculpted with human heads or plant motifs. The present church does not appear to have been built before the 15th century; however, the form of the vault corbels, and especially their bearing slabs, could suggest an earlier date.
Walking routes
Montredon is described as a stopping point and reception site for numerous pilgrims on the Way of St James. The GR®65 through Montredon forms part of the Via Podiensis, also known as the route from Le Puy-en-Velay.
The GR®65 stage from Montredon to Figeac is 20 km long and takes 6 hours and 45 minutes. The 18 km section between Montredon and Figeac is classified as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela because of the quality of its preserved landscapes and small-scale heritage.
Village life
The Pays d’art et d’histoire village tour programme included a tour of Montredon lasting approximately two hours on Saturday, 12 October 2024. It was open to everyone and was offered without a limit on the number of participants.
