Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie bears witness to very different periods: the Church of Saint-Augustin and the tombs it contains were classified as historic monuments by decree of 11 April 1906. At the same time, the archaeological site of the Grotte de Sainte-Eulalie preserves 28 animal depictions and 31 signs from the Upper Solutrean or Middle Magdalenian.
Those choosing Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie as a place to stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
In the hamlet of Sainte-Eulalie stands the Church of Sainte-Eulalie of the same name, which was classified as a historic monument by decree of 26 March 1973. The Romanesque building has preserved its original apse and nave.
The surviving remains of Val Paradis include a fortified gate and the prioress’s rooms. The Church of Saint-Augustin in Val Paradis was completed or nearly completed in 1289; the tomb of Aymeric d’Hébrard in this church was erected before 1295. The Monastery of Notre-Dame de Val Paradis was built as a new monastery and handed over to the prioress on 16 May 1293.
The Mousterian site at Pailhès is also one of the area’s notable historical traces. It is considered the only known Mousterian site in the Lot département on the valley floor.
Landscape and Trails
A QR code has been installed at several locations in the centre of Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie, enabling an immersive virtual visit to Val Paradis and the Churches of Saint-Augustin and Sainte-Eulalie. At Lac des Gravières, the preserved natural environment can be viewed from an observation hut.
Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie lies on the GR 651, a variant of the Way of Saint James that follows the Célé Valley. At the edge of the village, the Source Bleue is fed by an underground lake. It carries turquoise-coloured water, which is particularly impressive after winter rainfall and in spring.
Lac des Gravières has been ecologically restored. As part of this work, the connection between the body of water and the Célé was restored, and its banks were renovated. The La balade du Prieuré circular trail is suitable for mountain bikes.
