Durbans: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A special starting point for exploring Durbans is the archaeological site of the Dolmen des Roques No. 2. It is a megalithic monument from the Neolithic period. The site is in an exceptional state of preservation for the Quercy region; the burial chamber, which opens towards the southeast, is well preserved. Three tumuli are located nearby and form part of the sequence of monuments at Les Roques.

Culture and history

The historic building stock includes the Ferme de la Borie Grande. It may date from the late 18th or early 19th century and bears witness to the prosperity of a farming family in the 19th century, who converted their dwelling into a manor house. The ensemble also includes a monumental barn, characteristic of the large barns of the Causses in the second half of the 19th century.

The Chapelle Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Cornouiller near Durbans dates from 1857. Until the 1970s, two masses were celebrated there each year: one in May during the Rogation processions and one on the day after 15 August. On 25 May 2017, a first mass was held to mark its reopening.

Further megalithic remains include the tumulus of the Dolmen Peyre de l'Homme, with a diameter of 23 metres and a height of 1.70 metres, as well as the Dolmen Verdier Petit. It has a preserved but broken capstone measuring 5.60 metres long, 3.10 metres wide and 0.45 metres thick. The Dolmen Verdier Petit is located on agricultural land; visitors are asked to respect the crops.

Nature

Durbans is part of the ZNIEFF Zone centrale du Causse de Gramat. This zone contains twelve habitats of natural interest from the categories of agricultural and grazing land, aquatic and wet habitats, rocky habitats and forest habitats.

Airfield and aviation

The Aérodrome de Figeac-Livernon is located in the municipality of Durbans. For general aviation, it has a 900-metre-long paved runway. Beginners and experienced pilots can fly ULMs and light aircraft at the airfield.
