Crégols lies on the left bank of the Lot and combines a distinctive karst landscape with historic buildings and cultural sites. The Igue de Crégols is a karst depression typical of the Quercy region, formed by the collapse of the ground as a result of the water’s dissolution of the limestone.
Those who choose Crégols as the destination for their stay can combine their wish to rent a holiday apartment with this choice of location.
Nature
The phosphate mines of Crégols date back thousands of years and were operated as phosphate mines for fertiliser from 1865 to 1902. The cave at the source of Font-d’Erbies is located on private property and is designated as a Natura 2000 site.
Activities
The Sentier karstique de l’Igue de Crégols is 5 km long. An optional extension includes a cave loop and a round trip to a viewpoint overlooking the Lot Valley. The trail leads to geological features, including a former phosphate mine. Along the route, there are 11 information points, each marked by an explanatory wooden post.
There are several walking and hiking trails in the municipality of Crégols. The cliffs of Crégols offer climbing routes for challenging climbing. The Trail de l’Igue takes place every year on the first Sunday in December in Crégols.
Culture
The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens was built between 1875 and 1885 on the site of a former 12th-century Templar chapel. The Romanesque Chapelle de la Chaire de Saint-Pierre, later known as the Chapelle de Saint-Antoine, is thought to date from the 11th or 12th century.
The Pigeonnier troglodyte de Font-d’Erbies stands above a karst spring on a masonry arch and dates from the 17th to the 19th century. It was listed as a historic monument by decree of 16 January 2012.
Visiting
The Espace d’Art Roger Gobron in the hamlet of Trégoux, halfway between Concots and Crégols, permanently displays works by the Belgian painter Roger Gobron. Visits are only possible by prior appointment.
