Saint-Élix-le-Château: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Saint-Élix-le-Château is a Renaissance château in a landscape area of Haute-Garonne with numerous castles; the buildings there can serve as landmarks in the landscape or blend into their surroundings. The château consists of a square pavilion flanked by round towers and has unrendered brick façades.

Culture and History

The Château de Saint-Élix was built between 1540 and 1548 by the architect Laurent Clary for Pierre Potier, a Capitoul of Toulouse. It was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 31 January 1927.

The Sainte-Germaine Church was built between 1868 and 1875. Its Gothic Revival portal features nails and wrought-iron fittings; above it is a carved relief of the Lamb of God with a halo.

Above the chapel arcades is a wall fresco by Henry Delacroix dating from 1912. It consists of ten panels and depicts episodes from the life of Sainte-Germaine de Pibrac. The former church stood east of the village near the cemetery in the hamlet of “Le Fort”.

The 19th-century washhouse of Saint-Élix-le-Château is made of Foraine bricks and supplied with water by an adjacent spring. A heritage trail in Saint-Élix-le-Château tells the history of the village through old photographs displayed on large panels.

Part of the Boucle des trois châteaux runs along a canal and a stream.
