Tournecoupe is a historic Castelnau, built in the second half of the 13th century on a promontory overlooking the Arrats Valley. The village of Tournecoupe has been listed as a protected area since 1943.
History and Townscape
Outside the fortifications, the market hall of Tournecoupe stands at the eastern end of the main street. The former castle chapel now serves as the parish church and is included in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
Culture
The bell tower of the parish church has a square base and an unusual octagonal upper section. Inside, the parish church contains classified painted woodwork with symbolic motifs, monsters and foliage, attributed to the Italian painter Ricci and executed in 1838.
Tournecoupe has the typographic trail “Sens dessus dessous”, a treasure-hunt trail laid out through the village and offered by Thomas Deudé and Stéphane Castet.
