Renting a holiday apartment in Seissan is an independent travel request alongside an interest in the bastide, church and markets.
On a promontory at the confluence of the Gers and Rouquette rivers stands the preserved square tower of the former Seissan castle; it dates from the 13th century.
History
The bastide of Seissan took shape in 1288. Its well-regarded annual fairs gave it a commercial function.
Culture
The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. It contains carved stones from the former church.
Markets
Seissan’s Friday market takes place every Friday morning on Place Carnot and in Rue du Marché. The traditional Marché au Gras takes place on Fridays from 10 a.m. under Seissan’s large market hall. Fresh whole goose or duck foie gras is offered there; a cutting service is also available on site, making transport and preparation easier. The selection may vary considerably from week to week, particularly at the beginning of the season.
Getting Your Bearings
The Sentier d’Artiguedieu – PR13 is marked out in Seissan as a 4.0-kilometre route. The information point of the Val de Gers Tourist Office welcomes visitors in Seissan at Allée Pierre Bédat de Monlaur every Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
