Castéra-Verduzan was established in a valley on the banks of the Auloue River, near two springs, one of which is sulphurous and the other ferruginous.
Culture
The Commandery was built from the 12th century onwards as a Templar commandery and later as a commandery of the Hospitallers, or the Knights of Malta, as they were subsequently known.
A 17th-century cross in Vieux Castéra is easily accessible via a path north of the church and has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 4 February 1927. The interior of the church in Vieux Castéra cannot be visited for safety reasons.
