Rignac is home to the Conservatoire Régional du châtaignier, which is dedicated to preserving, researching and promoting old chestnut varieties. The associated conservation garden preserves more than 70 chestnut varieties for study and conservation purposes.

History

The history of the Maquis Du Guesclin is linked to the forests between Mirabel, Regardet and Prévinquières. A group led by Commander Hygonnet “Lescure” found refuge there. The hiking trail dedicated to the Maquis Du Guesclin includes a shelter built by the municipality with explanatory panels.

The wider region around Rignac is home to the historic site of Abbaye Sainte-Foy de Conques, the historic site of Prieuré de Vic-lès-Capdenac, and the historic site of Abbaye de Bonnecombe Comps-la-Grand-Ville, Aveyron. The Church of Saint-Roch is also located in this wider regional area.

At Un Oeil sur le Passé in Rignac, visitors can discover old technologies, which are also exhibited and demonstrated.

The Fête du Cheval in Rignac revived a local horse festival tradition that had disappeared in the mid-1970s.

Activities

Le Diplodocus continues Rignac’s equestrian tradition with riding lessons, courses, trail rides and other equestrian activities, among other things.

The Regional Chestnut Conservatory offers groups of at least 10 people a free two-hour guided tour of a chestnut grove and a Sécadou upon reservation.

Food and Drink

La Ferme de Tessi is an organically farmed operation and sells veal and beef, eggs, walnuts, chestnut products and apple juice directly from the farm. On site, the farm offers meals at the farm table. Upon reservation, it also offers a free farm visit and a tasting for €6 per person.
