Hiking

In Villeneuve-du-Latou, Les coteaux du Latou, a moderately difficult 11-kilometre circular hike that takes around three hours, begins. The start and finish are on the square in front of the town hall; a turn-off from the D626a leads to the town hall. The route runs over ridges, through forests and across cultivated fields between two nearby villages. The hike is also included in the tourist office’s hiking list; the hiking trails presented there are maintained and signposted all year round.

At the Salle des fêtes, the picnic table area is located by the roadside in front of the village community centre. It is freely accessible.

Culture

The Église Saint-Martin has three naves, a choir ending in a pentagonal apse, and two semicircular subsidiary apses. The monument to the fallen of the First World War is located in the Saint-Joseph Chapel of the Saint-Martin parish church in Villeneuve-du-Latou. It consists of an altar, a tabernacle, two statues, two commemorative plaques and a stained-glass window.

The Musée Pierre Bayle museum and the historic site Abbaye Notre-Dame de Calers are located in the immediate vicinity of Villeneuve-du-Latou. The ruins of Abbaye des Salenques are located in the surrounding area. Further afield in the region are the historic site Abbaye de Boulbonne, the Pech de Limouzy summit, the Cabanères summit, the Grotte du Portel cave and the Grotte des Trois Frères cave.

The southern tip of the Castel site overlooks the Latou valley and may have supported a fortification. Behind the Castel site extends a small, landscaped spur that was protected by a ditch.

Nature

At the biodiversity festival held in Villeneuve-du-Latou on 25 and 26 May 2024, the Ferme du Fillol was presented as a site under conservation management.
