Ganac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “Le Picou depuis Ganac” route begins opposite Ganac Town Hall, leads uphill through the forest and reaches the pasture zone at Col du Calmil. It is classified as very difficult, is 18 km long and has an ascent of 1,100 metres. The route offers views of the Barguillère Valley, Foix, the high mountain range of Ariège, as well as more distant peaks such as Pic du Midi de Bigorre and the first foothills of the Massif Central.

Paths and landscapes

The Sentier Gouttes et feuilles is a circular discovery trail created by pupils from Ganac. It showcases Ganac’s historical, natural and cultural treasures.

The landscape also includes the Prat d'Albis, a high Pyrenean plateau at an altitude of 1,211 metres. It lies on the border of the municipalities of Ganac, Prayols, Montoulieu and Saurat.

Culture and history

In the heart of the village of Ganac stands the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Ganac. Its history can be traced back at least to the beginning of the 12th century. The church’s ciborium dates from the 19th century and has been classified as a protected object since 9 October 1969.

The Forge de Saint-Pierre in Ganac is a Catalan forge built in 1803. Its hydraulic system includes a water channel that has retained its original design, as well as a basin with its original dimensions. The Moulin de Saut is also one of the village’s historical landmarks: it was a flour mill, and its millstones are still present. The historic equipment in the Forge de Lacassagne has been completely preserved.

Village life

At Ganac'Arts, amateur painters, creative artists and craftspeople present their works. Storytellers and musicians also bring the village’s streets and squares to life. Ganac'Arts takes place on the last weekend of July.
