Hayange: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Hayange lies the Éperon Barré du Bois des Chênes, a fortified Iron Age site dating from 700 to 50 BC. At the Éperon Barré du Bois des Chênes, the natural relief was used for defence; the rampart and ditch are still clearly visible in the landscape.

History

The Chapelle de Wendel is also part of Hayange’s historical character. The neo-Gothic funerary chapel is located in the centre of Hayange; the tombs of the de Wendel family were formerly located there. Since 25 September 1980, the Chapelle de Wendel has been listed in the inventory of Monuments historiques. It is open during the Journées du Patrimoine.

Culture

The Église Saint-Martin combines several noteworthy details. Its frescoes were created by Nicolas-Émilie Lefebvre from 1893 to 1895. The church building is constructed from limestone from Neufchef and features a Renaissance-inspired design. The Opus 100 organ was completed in 1894 by the Dalstein-Haerpfer workshops; it is considered one of the most remarkable organs and is the largest organ in Moselle.

Les fresques de Gawra can also be seen in Hayange. These are trompe-l’œil murals by Greg GAWRA depicting everyday life in the valley as well as its industrial and rural heritage. The Église Saint-Martin can be visited free of charge and is open daily.

Hayange’s year-round programme of events and activities also includes the traditional Fête du mouton.

Nature

Un chemin, une école is a marked path 11.3 kilometres long that connects Hayange’s various neighbourhoods.

Along this path, visitors can discover hiking, local history, the economy, local legends, and the local flora and fauna.

The statue of Notre-Dame de Hayange has stood above the town since 1903, at approximately 307 metres above Hayange, and watches over the Fensch Valley. Notre-Dame de Hayange offers panoramic views of Hayange and the Fensch Valley. There is an orientation board at the foot of the statue.
