Saint-Agnant-de-Versillat: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Agnan is a single-nave church consisting of two bays vaulted with rib vaults and liernes. Its vaults are decorated with depictions of foliage, tendrils and birds. The bell-tower porch dates from the 13th century; the former portal between the narthex and the nave dates back to the 12th century and features capitals. By an inscription order dated 8 May 1933, the church has been protected as a historic monument.

Culture

The history of the village includes the Lanterne des morts de Versillat, which probably dates from the late 12th century. In 1869, it was reassembled in the present-day cemetery when the former cemetery next to the church was relocated. The structure consists of a hollow hexagonal column and a pyramidal roof with eight round-arched openings. A boundary marker also indicates the borders of the three former provinces of Marche, Berry and Poitou.

Trails

The hiking trail Circuit pédestre n° 6 – La Faille des Trois Provinces is an 8.4 km circular route. The walking time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, and the route is classified as moderately difficult. The circular hiking trail leads from the Sédelle Valley into the Chaudron Valley and over the hills that form the geological fault line of the Marche Fault.

For mountain bikes, there is the circular route Circuit VTT n° 18 – Le tour de Versillat, which is 27.9 km long and rated moderately difficult. Via the GR654 and the Way of St. James, the route reaches the Sédelle Valley and crosses the Way of St. James several times.

Nature

Along the course of the Sédelle lies the Peu de Châtelus, a low hill whose steep slopes rise above the river. It belongs to a group of “peus” that mark the beginning of a significant geological fault there.

Artbotanic is a botanical garden in a small valley below Saint-Agnant-de-Versillat. Over an area of 3 hectares, it is home to 1,000 trees and shrubs, more than 4,000 perennials and 88 rose bushes.
