Culture and History
The Marché d’Auzances takes place every Tuesday morning in the town centre. The Église Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur is the oldest building in Auzances; most of the building dates from the 12th century. Its oldest part is Romanesque, while the rest is Gothic. The church contains colourful frescoes inspired by Byzantine art, created by the Russian painter Nicolas Greschny.
The Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite was built in the 17th century. It houses a collection of Gallo-Roman objects discovered in Auzances and the surrounding area, as well as an archaeological exhibition featuring remains discovered in 1971. The chapel is located on the GR 41 long-distance hiking trail, “Vallée du Cher”.
The Chapelle Sainte-Anne preserves a chancel dating from the 11th to the 12th century and a round-arched entrance portal. It also contains a 17th-century altarpiece and a gilded wooden statue of Saint Anne. The Chapelle Sainte-Anne is open free of charge all year round.
Old houses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries can be found on Place du Terrier and in Rue des Jardins, Petite Rue Morel and Place du 11 Novembre.
Atelier Galerie La Lavandière in Auzances offers workshops as well as the production, exhibition and sale of ceramics, paintings, art objects and wooden musical instruments.
As part of the Accueil Vélo quality label, the Bureau d’accueil touristique d’Auzances has seven bicycle parking spaces.
Nature
The Gallo-Roman villa of Coux is open and free to visit all year round. It includes Roman baths, whose restoration was completed in 1986. The Parc de Coux is open to the public and free to visit all year round.
In the approximately 50-hectare Parc Animalier de Coux municipal wildlife park, visitors can observe fallow deer, peacocks, golden pheasants, swans and emus while walking.
The fortifications of old Auzances offer views over the Noisette Valley.
