Latour-Bas-Elne: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Latour-Bas-Elne is home to the Église Saint-Jacques, a single-nave church building with a semicircular Romanesque apse and a window with splayed reveals on both sides.
Culture
Construction of the Église Saint-Jacques began in the 12th century, replacing an earlier Saint-Jacques church that has been documented since 945. On 25 July, the feast day of the patron saint Saint-Jacques, a mass is celebrated in the church, accompanied by a Catalan cobla and the singing of the Goigs. Every year, the relics of Saint-Jacques are loaned by Elne Cathedral for veneration.
The Cellera de Latour encompasses approximately the protected area around the church. Originally, it included a fortified tower, which has been mentioned since the 10th century and gave the village its name. Today, the cadireta is displayed on the curved altar of the Chapel of the Virgin Mary.
For the 4th Festival des Arts de Latour-Bas-Elne, an art area entitled “Le Petit Montmartre” was planned from 11 to 25 July. An open-air art trail around the church, featuring more than 100 artists and craftspeople, was announced for 19 July.
Anyone planning Latour-Bas-Elne as a place to stay may intend to rent a holiday apartment there.
