Landscape

Lac de l’Agly is located 4 km from Cassagnes and is suitable for hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. The easy Balcon du Pic Aubeil trail leads from the village of Cassagnes to Pic Aubeil at an elevation of 541 metres. From there, the 360° panorama extends across vineyards, villages in the Fenouillèdes, Lac de l’Agly, and its dam.

Hiking

The Chemin des Capitelles is a very easy 5.1 km circular route and a family-friendly, partially shaded trail. It follows an old connecting path that linked Cassagnes with Latour-de-France via the Chapelle Saint-Martin in the vineyards until 1865. The trail begins at the car park on the Route de Picaubeil in Cassagnes.

The Sentier du Barrage is an easy 6.4 km circular route. It passes by the large Agly reservoir and through vineyard slopes, garrigue or maquis, as well as oak forests.

Culture and history

The Château de Cuxous was first mentioned in 1119. The Château de Cuxous has a square layout; four wings enclose an inner courtyard. In France, it is partially protected as a historic monument.

The Circuit des Châteaux also passes by the Château de Cuxous.
