Culture and history
The Church of Saint-Pierre de Valflaunès is a Romanesque building dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. The Church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens has a Romanesque structure and a Lombard-style apse with a domed vault. The Chapelle d’Aleyrac was built in the 12th century as a Romanesque chapel with traces of frescoes.
The Château de Viviourès survives as a ruin on a rocky spur of the Hortus cliffs. Traces of Neanderthals were discovered in the Grotte de l’Hortus; it was inhabited from around 30,000 BC until the Visigothic period. Théâtre Le Pas du Géant offers theatre workshops for children, young people and adults.
Landscape and nature
The L’Hortus mountain in the municipality of Valflaunès has a white limestone cliff more than 100 metres high and over one kilometre long, providing a habitat for several pairs of birds of prey. Valflaunès lies within the Pic Saint-Loup Natura 2000 site. Its conservation objectives cover natural habitats, plant species and all animal species except birds; the municipality is not entirely enclosed within the site.
Valflaunès also lies within the perimeter of the Hautes Garrigues du Montpelliérais Natura 2000 site, whose conservation objectives cover birds and their habitats.
Wine and local traditions
The Festa de la Vendemia takes place every October in Valflaunès and has been organised there since 2008. It includes a market selling regional produce, exhibitions in the village’s former agricultural buildings and wine tastings. Every year, a flock from Sainte-Croix-de-Quintillargues passes through the village of Valflaunès during its transhumance.
Domaine UMA offers a guided 3-kilometre walk through its own vineyards; the walk ends with a tasting of three wines. Château Boisset offers a cellar tour followed by a guided wine tasting, with or without an appointment.

Routes through the surrounding area
The Passa Meridia route reaches Valflaunès from Lac de Jeantou. From Valflaunès, the Passa Meridia route follows a path between vineyards and pine trees to a junction leading towards the hamlet of Cazeneuve or the centre of Lauret.
