Grabels: holiday apartments and houses
In Grabels, the L’Oasis des garrigues begins on the banks of the Mosson near the Source de l’Avy. The hiking trail, recognised by the Fédération française de randonnée, was established by the municipality of Grabels with technical support from the FFR de l’Hérault and is maintained and signposted by the municipality of Grabels. It follows a route formerly used by salt carts to partially wooded, rocky plateaus with panoramic views of Pic Saint-Loup and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Nature
The park around the Source de l’Avy and along the Mosson is a heavily wooded place for walks. The leisure area at the Source de l’Avy has tables, wooden benches and a fitness trail; numerous paths and trails also start there. The orienteering course at the Source de l’Avy comprises around 40 markers and can be used by families as a fun orienteering game or treasure hunt.
Culture and history
The historic village of Grabels features narrow lanes and preserved remains of former fortifications, including the towers of the presbytery and the clock tower. Rue du Porche was built through the former fortified wall and is known for its casement windows.
The church of Grabels has two towers; behind the newer tower, an older Romanesque bell structure has been preserved. It was rebuilt in 1666 after the village was captured by Protestant rebels during the Wars of Religion in 1621 and 1622, and parts of it were destroyed.
The history of the village also includes the Bugadières: these washerwomen collected the laundry of wealthy people from Montpellier, washed it, dried it on aromatic plants of the garrigue and then returned it. This activity, known as Bugada, continued for more than three centuries.
The Tour de Montredon is a tower dating from the end of the 12th century on a hill between Grabels and Combaillaux. It can be reached via the Chemin du Mas de Matour and offers views of Grabels, Combaillaux, Saint-Gély and Pic Saint-Loup.
Leisure
Altissimo Montpellier Grabels offers freely accessible climbing walls, individual and group courses, equipment rental and sales, as well as climbing excursions. Karting Elceka offers outdoor karting with vehicle rental, challenges and private events.
Trails and local life
Grabels lies on the Via Tolosana, also known as the Chemin d’Arles or GR653, one of the main pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. Grabels’ municipal hikers’ lodge was established for hikers and pilgrims travelling on the GR653, the Via d’Arles between Montpellier and Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. It is closed for construction work from 15 October 2025 to 15 September 2026.
Grabels’ short supply chain market takes place on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Place Jean Jaurès.
