Nature

The Domaine des Orpellières covers 150 hectares and consists of a beach, a 2.5-kilometre-long strip of dunes and an extensive salt meadow area. As a Natura 2000 site, it is home to several animal species and plant varieties.

Culture

The Musée régional d’art contemporain in Sérignan presents temporary exhibitions and a permanent collection across 3,200 m². The museum also includes a graphic arts cabinet, exhibition rooms and a bookshop-boutique.

La Cigalière is a performing arts venue in the centre of Sérignan. Its diverse programme includes contemporary music, events for young audiences, as well as circus, theatre, dance and puppet theatre. In 2024, La Cigalière received the designation “Scène Conventionnée d’Intérêt National, Art, Enfance et Jeunesse”.

The building housing La Cigalière was designed by the architect Nicolas Guillot and the artist Daniel Buren and features 170 metal columns.

The Château Vargoz is a former 19th-century bourgeois estate that has been converted into a space for contemporary art and artist residencies. It hosts artists from various disciplines and organises cultural events, including exhibitions, performances, meetings and educational activities in connection with the French education system.

Hiking and Sightseeing

The “Randonnée les Orpellières, Trésors de Nature” hiking trail runs along the banks of the Orb, through salt meadows, sansouïres, dunes and lagoons. Information panels explain the landscape and natural heritage. The hiking trail is described as suitable for families and combines beach activities with the discovery of the environment.

The Orpellières viewpoint can be reached via 71 steps and offers panoramic views of the area’s landscapes.
