History and Culture
In Uchaud, the milestone column “Colonne milliaire au nom d'Antonin le Pieux” stands on the Via Domitia between Nîmes and Narbonne. The monument dates from the 2nd century and was classified as a “Monument historique” by decree of 30 November 1912.
The town’s historic features also include the sundial on Uchaud’s clock tower. It was restored true to the original; the restoration has been completed. The sundial, dating from the mid-19th century, has an additional calendar dial that can also be used to determine the date.

Geographical Setting
The RN 113 runs through Uchaud and connects Nîmes with Montpellier. The Narbonne–Avignon TER railway line also runs through the town.
Nature and Landscape
Uchaud is home to a wetland with the riparian woodlands of the Vistre. The Vistre and its riparian woodlands form biodiversity reservoirs and an important movement corridor for aquatic species and species of wetland habitats.
South of the RN 113, Uchaud has agricultural land, pastures and fallow land. North of the A9, there are woodland areas and garrigue.
The “Costières nîmoises” Natura 2000 Special Protection Area for birds is located in Uchaud. The municipality of Uchaud aims to preserve the natural garrigue zone north of the A9 from development.
