Aigremont is home to the Château d’Aigremont, which was built in 1320 and completed in 1360. The village lies on the former Roman road from Uzès to Sauve and is crossed by four departmental roads: RD 8, RD 215, RD 907 and RD 6110.
Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Aigremont can choose the village as their accommodation destination.
Culture
The courtyard of the Château d’Aigremont contains a Romanesque keep dating from the 12th or 13th century. At the southern entrance there is a round-arched gateway for carts bearing the dates 1360 and 1760. The walls of the château form an almost perfect circle, suggesting that Aigremont originated as a circulade.
An information board was installed next to the Foyer Francis PERRIGOT in 2010. From its location, the horizon stretches from Pic Saint Loup to the Monts d'Ardèche. The board also provides an overview of the Camisard Wars.
Archaeological remains at the Château d’Aigremont provide evidence of rural settlements inhabited during the early and late Roman Imperial periods. The Mémorial départemental in Aigremont is dedicated to soldiers from the Gard who died in North Africa fighting for France.
Nature
The surroundings of Aigremont include vineyards and areas of grain cultivation. Marked hiking trails run through the village along vineyards and garrigue; the surrounding countryside also invites visitors to go cycling.
Aigremont is crossed by three important waterways: La Courme, the ruisseau de Bay and the ruisseau des Trois Seigneurs. Les Ravines d’Aigremont is a ZNIEFF in the northeast of the municipality. The ravines are home to the rare bird species Tawny Pipit and Woodlark, which are protected in France and in the European Community.
Food and Drink
The Épicerie de la Circulade operates a bread outlet in Aigremont. In summer, its terrace in Aigremont’s historic village centre invites visitors to enjoy a coffee.
The name of the Domaine du Mas des Volques refers to the remains of a small Gallic village of the Volques Arécomiques discovered among the vines. The Domaine du Mas des Volques is a wine-producing estate in Aigremont.
