A Roman road runs through the centre of Connaux and is known locally as the “voie romaine de Lyon” or “route royale”. The Fort de Conatis was built on a rock as an enclosure flanked by four towers.

Culture and History
The Fort de Conatis protected the inhabitants from attacks by highwaymen in the centuries that followed. The fort’s south gate was opened in 1783; a clock and a campanile are located above the gate. Below the campanile lies the Fontaine de Cérès, crowned by a statue of Ceres.
The fort also contains the church dedicated to Saint Benedict. It was certainly built at the same time as the fort and is designed in the Romanesque-Byzantine style. During the same period, the municipal council decided to build the “Lavoir des Fontaines” at the foot of Sarcin Hill, also known as the “Lavoir du Crapaud”. Another village washhouse was built in 1846 by the architect Delaygue.
Landscape and Geographical Setting
Connaux lies among vineyards, orchards, garrigue and forests and is bordered by the Tave. The village is located in the south of Provence Occitane on the road to Uzès.
Events and Visiting
On 14 June, the municipality of Connaux hosts the Fête de la Musique. Connaux can be visited every day throughout the year.
