History and Architectural Heritage

Beauvoisin was first mentioned around 820 in a cartulary manuscript of the Abbey of Psalmody. On an elevated site in the Costière, the village developed from a presumably existing castle mound into a fortified castle and a castle settlement.

Beauvoisin's present-day parish church was rebuilt around 1670 after the Wars of Religion and restored in 1868. It is Gothic and features some Romanesque elements.

The Protestant temple of Beauvoisin was built in 1819 by the architect Charles Durand. By decree of 30 January 2012, the Protestant temple was listed as a historic monument.

The Cistercian Abbey of Franquevaux was founded from 1141 onwards and built over a period of more than sixty years. The Monk's Walk uses QR codes to tell the story of a 12th-century abbey from which the hamlet of Franquevaux emerged in 1791.

Walks and Local Discoveries

The Clover Walk is an easy walk of around two hours featuring eight points of interest in the village. Another way to explore the area's history is the Monk's Walk, with its QR codes and the story of the 12th-century abbey.

Beauvoisin is home to the oldest still-visible Empègue, dating from 1894. The Empègue depicts a horse drawn with a red line, with the year shown inside its body. Between its hooves are the letters RF for French Republic.

Traditions, Festivals and Market

The Sunday summer market Les Dimanches des Tèfles in Beauvoisin brings together local producers, craftspeople and creatives. Beauvoisin's traditional votive festival is scheduled to take place from 15 to 23 August 2026. Its programme includes Abrivado, Bandido, Encierro and Camargue races.
