Avèze: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature
The Arre is one of three rivers that flow through Avèze. A signposted 3.5-kilometre circular hike starting in Avèze is called Le Pont de Mousse; it takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Le Pont de Mousse is a natural arch made of young, light and porous limestone tufa formations shaped by the stream.
Avèze was established at the foot of the Causse de Blandas. Avèze also has a designated parking area for motorhomes.
Culture
The Château de Montcalm has been listed in France’s supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 1942. It is a former fortified castle that has been remodelled several times.
Avèze has picturesque streets lined with imposing townhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries. The cultural heritage also includes the Moulin de Montcalm complex, later known as Kammerer, which is listed as industrial heritage and includes, among other things, a factory for producing lithographic stones.
The Belgian cemetery in Avèze is a military cemetery where Belgian soldiers who died at the Cauvalat sanatorium during the First World War are buried.
History
Avèze was founded around the year 800 by Benedictine monks. The earliest recorded written forms of the place name are Aveda from 1150 and Aveza from 1262.
