Vinassan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vinassan lies on the western slope of the Massif de la Clape. The wooded slopes of the Massif de la Clape are characterised by pine trees, vines, almond trees and olive trees. Since 1973, the Massif de la Clape has been classified as a protected landscape; it is also designated as a Natura 2000 site and as an Espace naturel sensible of the Aude département.

Nature

In the centre of Vinassan is the Maison de la Clape, a free-to-access interpretation centre dedicated to the Massif de la Clape. It is open to the public and provides information about the natural environment of the Massif de la Clape. It also features a three-dimensional model explaining the development of the landscape, bird migrations and the winds in the Narbonnaise region.

The local landscape includes the circular hiking trails “Au Gré de la Combe du Loup” and “De Trialbe”. “Au Gré de la Combe du Loup” is 6.2 km long and takes about 2.5 hours on foot. “De Trialbe” covers 2 km and takes about 30 minutes on foot.

Culture

Vinassan’s church, dedicated to Saint Martin, preserves a Romanesque apse that probably dates from the 11th century. The Church of Saint Martin in Vinassan features Lombard blind arcades on the exterior, supported by pilasters. Two historic sundials are also still visible on the church.

History

At the foot of the Massif de la Clape stands the Glacière de Vinassan, an ice house dating from the 17th century. It lies on the 130-km-long Route de la Glace, which connects the Montagne Noire with the sea. Five restoration projects were carried out at the Glacière de Vinassan between 2003 and 2007.

The local history also includes the Pompe du Curé. The well, built in 1880, is 8 m deep and has a pump that is still operational.
