Culture and history

On the forecourt to the right of the entrance to the church in Lignairolles stands a replica of the statue of Notre-Dame de Marceille. According to local tradition, it was erected there to point pilgrims on the Way of St. James towards Limoux and its famous basilica.

Next to the parish church of Lignairolles, on a façade wall beside the path, stands the enigmatic sculpture Main de Sainte-Anne. It is an archaic paw-shaped cross on a small trapezoidal base; at its centre there is presumably a sacred depiction of Saint Anne’s left hand.

When establishing Lignairolles, Guy de Lévis III used a regular town plan in 1265.
