History

Comigne is situated on a slope that forms one of the ramps of the Montagne d'Alaric. Due to its location, the Château de Comigne was able to control one of the few northern access routes to the Corbières through the Alaric Massif.

A fortified site in Comigne is documented for the years 1324 and 1351 as Castro de Cominhano. Above a door of the Château de Comigne is a coat of arms attributed to Auger de Gaugenx, who was Abbot of Lagrasse from 1280 to 1308.

Culture

The church of Comigne is first mentioned in 951 in a bull issued by Pope Agapetus II. Since 1304, it has been recognized as a parish church and has fulfilled this function ever since. Its rectangular choir faces west.

Art and Trails

The Sentier artistique Ballad'Art en Canto Cocut is a 3 km promenade through pine forests and vineyards. It begins at the car park near the Comigne community centre.

The trail features around fifty works by professional and non-professional artists and offers views of the Montagne Noire, the Alaric and the village of Comigne.
