Culture and History
Today's parish church in Carlipa was built in 1874. The exceptions are three chapels on the Gospel side, which were preserved from the former church. These chapels have stone vaults with pointed arches resting on corbels decorated with depictions of human heads.
The bell tower built on the first chapel belonged to the former church from the 14th century. The ruins of the Saint-André church also point to an older past: They are the remains of a church whose destruction apparently took place before the 17th century.
Another historical trace was discovered 18 m west of a spring in the immediate vicinity of the former Saint-André-de-Fraissinède priory: fifteen bronze arm rings were found there. Saint-Papoul Abbey is 9 km from Carlipa.
Nature
The Vallée du Lampy Natura 2000 site, a Special Area of Conservation (FR 9101446), extends partly across the territory of Carlipa.
The Lampy Valley was designated a Natura 2000 site because of the richness of its eponymous watercourse. The valley has remarkable woodland flora and rare wildlife, including southern barbels and Planer's lampreys.
Location and Route
Carlipa is 9 km from the Bram exit of the A61 motorway. A five-day e-bike route through the Montagne Noire also passes through the village.
