Belvianes-Et-Cavirac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the exit of the Gorges de la Pierre-Lys, the River Aude separates Belvianes on the left bank from Cavirac on the right bank. The area is characterised by rocky landscapes, woodland, river activities and cultural and historical features.

Nature

The Forêt des Fanges is a protected state forest with beech and fir woodland and rocky steep slopes. A hiking trail and numerous other paths cross the forest; there is also a mountain refuge there.

The Belvédère du Diable viewpoint offers a unique view of the Gorges de la Pierre-Lys and the “Murailles du Diable”, the steep cliffs above the Aude. Vultures nest in the rocks of the Gorges de la Pierre Lys. The hike “Les seigneurs des murailles du diable” names griffon vultures, golden eagles, Egyptian vultures, bearded vultures and peregrine falcons as characteristic species.

The Echine du Diable is a rock barrier known among climbers.

Activities

The Gorges de la Pierre Lys in Belvianes-et-Cavirac form a climbing area with at least one hundred recorded routes; most are multi-pitch routes over 100 metres long. Access to the Rocher école à Cavirac is via the former railway line and, before the tunnel, along a path; car parks are located behind the bridge over the Aude.

From its base in Belvianes-et-Cavirac, Aude Aventure offers rafting, canyoning and hydrospeed. From spring onwards, rafting boats frequently land near the Trou du Curé at the entrance to the Gorges de la Pierre-Lys.

The “Les seigneurs des murailles du diable” hike is 3 km long, takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, and starts at the church car park in Belvianes.

Culture

A tabernacle is kept in the Church of Saint-Jacques de Cavirac. The altarpiece tabernacle in the Church of Saint-Jacques de Cavirac dates from the 17th century and was classified as a Monument historique on 6 May 1975.
