Culture and history

The Église Saint-Rémy is mentioned in a document dating from 1000 by Odon de Sully, Bishop of Paris. Several 14th- and 15th-century tombstones are still visible in the church. Local history also includes the Café Saint-Rémy: its façade is decorated with four ceramic panels by the ceramicist A.-J. Arnoux. The café was housed in a 19th-century post station, which was converted at the beginning of the 20th century, on the initiative of the Rothschild family, into a café with a performance hall on the upper floor.

Nature

A Grande Randonnée trail crosses the Forêt régionale de Ferrières massif from one side to the other. The Promenade du Cormier is laid out there as a 5-kilometre walking route. The Forêt régionale de Ferrières is home to, among other species, roe deer, sika deer, wild boar, rabbits and foxes. The sika deer were introduced by the Rothschild family.

The Chêne Saint-Jean is considered one of the notable trees in the Forêt de Ferrières; its trunk has a circumference of 4.8 metres. The Forêt régionale de Ferrières can be reached via the RER E station at Roissy-en-Brie, followed by a five-minute walk. Another option is to take the RER A to Torcy and then bus line 2290 to the “Fleuriste” stop in Pontcarré.

Château de Ferrières

The Salon de l’Entrevue at the Château de Ferrières was the setting in 1870 for the meeting between Bismarck and Jules Favre. The same salon houses the last two historic tapestries of the Château de Ferrières. The château offers guided tours throughout the year, showcasing its architecture, historic salons and the history of the Rothschild family.

Le Chai is a bistro restaurant in the renovated former kitchens at the heart of the Château de Ferrières’ 135-hectare park.

Environmental education

The Maison de la Nature offers numerous events where visitors can discover the area’s fauna and flora. During its open hours, it also offers eco-workshops and events.
