Culture and history
The Les Prisons de la Prévôté building has been listed in the register of historic monuments since 5 February 1937. Graffiti from 1692 and 1693 has been preserved in the Prisons de la Prévôté, including names, dates and drawings. The Prévôté is open to the public via the Maison du Patrimoine at 27 Grande Rue.
The entrance porch of the Hôtel-Dieu dates from the 12th century and was listed as a historic monument on 6 March 1926. The Hôtel-Dieu was built by Louis VII as a leprosarium and belonged to the Church of Saint-Pierre.
The Porte Baudry is a remnant of the fortifications of Montlhéry, built at the end of the Middle Ages, and the last gate of these fortifications that remains completely preserved. Next to the entrance to the Esplanade of the Château de Montlhéry, the foundations of a chapel built by Saint Louis have been preserved.
Experiences
The Tour de Montlhéry is open for visits on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. from 18 April to 25 October 2026. Visitors can climb the 138 steps of the Tour de Montlhéry to the summit and enjoy views of Montlhéry and its surroundings. In the 19th century, the Tour de Montlhéry was used for scientific research, including measurements of the speed of sound and studies of the travel time of light.
Nature
Parc de la Souche is a one-hectare wooded and flower-filled garden with three terraces and views of the tower and the town walls.
Events
The Foire à la Tomate was established in Montlhéry on 18 October 1908. The 21st edition of the Tomate contre la Dystonie cycle tour connected Montlhéry with Salignac from 7 to 11 May 2026. The Fête Médiévale de Montlhéry was announced as its 9th edition for 2026.
