Culture

In Chalou-Moulineux stands the Church of Saint-Aignan and Sainte-Apolline, dating from the 12th century. It has a portal with a lowered pointed arch and a square, three-storey bell tower.

The church was consecrated in 1228 and remained a place of worship until 1793. During the Revolution, it was sold as national property and subsequently partially destroyed.

The nave contains a carved and painted wooden statuette of Saint Aignan, probably dating from the 15th or 16th century. The pilgrimage to the Fontaine Sainte-Apolline also dates back to a significantly earlier period; Saint Apollonia is invoked for toothache because of her martyrdom.

Those who choose Chalou-Moulineux for their stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

History

Between 1185 and 1311, the Templars had mills built and operated in Moulineux; this gave the village the name Moulineux. A new building of the Moulin de Moulineux was erected in 1488.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Moulineux estate comprised a château, a pond and a mill, and belonged to the Parisian music publisher Monsieur Joubert. It was first converted into a shoe-dyeing facility and subsequently into a power station for lighting the estate.

Nature

At the Étang et vestiges de l'Église Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry site, the construction of a dam created two ponds built by the Templars. The smaller pond at this site fed two mills and gave Moulineux its name.

The remains of the Church of Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry are still visible beside the pond; they are from a church consecrated in 1228.

The source of the Chalouette lies below the village at the end of the leafy Voie des Hospitaliers. The route from the source of the Chalouette to Moulineux and back is approximately two kilometres long and follows a flat, shady path.
