Culture

In the forests of Milly-la-Forêt stands Le Cyclop, a monumental sculptural work measuring 22.5 metres in height and weighing 350 tonnes.

Inside Le Cyclop, a labyrinthine tour leads past works of art and mechanical curiosities.

The market hall of Milly-la-Forêt has been listed as a Monument historique since 1923.

Its history goes back further: in 1479, Admiral de Graville, Lord of Milly, was granted the right by a special privilege from Louis XI to build the market hall and hold three annual fairs there, as well as a weekly market.

When staying in Milly-la-Forêt, the wish to rent a holiday apartment may be part of personal travel planning.

History

Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was founded in the 11th century as a former castle chapel and rebuilt around 1485 at the order of Admiral de Graville in the Gothic style of the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Chapelle Saint-Blaise-des-Simples was built in the 12th century as part of a leper colony.

In 1959, Jean Cocteau decorated the Chapelle Saint-Blaise-des-Simples with stained-glass windows and wall frescoes depicting the Resurrection of Christ, medicinal plants and simple healing herbs.

Jean Cocteau has rested in the centre of the Chapelle Saint-Blaise-des-Simples since 1964; at his request, his last partner, Edouard Dermit, also rests there.

The Château de la Bonde and its park have been listed in the register of protected sites since 1946.
