Culture and History

The Château du Val Fleury is dedicated to culture and offers exhibitions, conferences and events. Its park is landscaped with bodies of water and extends to the Yvette.

The Église Saint-Remi has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 21 December 1938. It combines Romanesque and Gothic styles and houses a rich collection of sculptures as well as remarkable paintings. The “Dimanches musicaux” concert series takes place on Sundays at 5 p.m. in the Église Saint-Remi in 2025–2026.

Since 2025, the Château de l'Hermitage has held the designation “Patrimoine d'intérêt régional”. According to some historians, the foundation of the Abbaye Notre-Dame du Val-de-Gif dates back approximately to the period from 1000 to 1122; it is first mentioned around 1138 in a royal letter from Louis VII le Jeune.

Nature

The park of the Château du CNRS has been designated a bird protection area or bird refuge since 1991. The “Entre ville et nature, Yvette et Mérantaise” hiking route begins in Gif-sur-Yvette and follows the Yvette through the Bois d’Aigrefoin and the municipal forest of Saint-Aubin, as well as along the Mérantaise.

Geographical Setting

The wider regional surroundings of Gif-sur-Yvette are home to four destinations: the Musée de Luxembourg as a museum, the Palais Bourbon as a palace, the Château de Saint-Cloud as a château and Rechauffoir as a historic site.

Also located in the wider regional surroundings of Gif-sur-Yvette are the Arche de la Défense, a natural arch, the Île de la Cité and the Île Saint-Louis, both islands, as well as the Jardin du Luxembourg, a garden.

Market and Culinary Delights

The Marché du Parc on Rue du Parc takes place on Thursdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offers, among other things, fruit and vegetables, baked goods, organic products and produce from the region.
