Those who have chosen Étampes as their destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Étampes has held the “Ville d’Art et d’Histoire” label since January 2006 and has 26 listed historic monuments.

History and architectural heritage

The Tour de Guinette is the 12th-century keep of the former royal castle of Étampes, which has since disappeared. It has a rare four-leaf clover-shaped floor plan. The Tour de Guinette is open daily year-round; the outdoor area is freely accessible and admission is free.

The Église Saint-Basile was built around 1020 at the behest of Robert II as a complement to the Collégiale Notre-Dame-du-Fort, for the population’s religious services. The first Église Saint-Gilles was built in 1123, when the square was laid out together with the wheat market established by Louis VI the Fat. In the Collégiale Notre-Dame-du-Fort, the Sibyls’ stained-glass window depicts twelve pagan prophetesses of antiquity.

The Hôtel Anne-de-Pisseleu was built in the 16th century for the tax official Jean Lamoureux and now houses the Étampes tourist office. The Église Saint-Martin is distinguished by a leaning comma-shaped tower. The tower was built on marshy ground, causing it to sink.
