The Sentier du Chêne d’Autrage is an 8 km discovery trail that takes 3 hours. Its starting point in Autrechêne is at the intersection of rue d’Eschêne and chemin de la Ligne.
The trail runs through the protected natural area “Vallée de la Bourbeuse et ses affluents” and through one of the last remaining lowland valleys in the region. The Bourbeuse plain, with the river’s meanders and its wetlands, is a remarkable site protected for the conservation of its fauna and flora.
“Le Sans Pareil”, also known as “Chêne d’Autrage”, was an extraordinary tree of colossal proportions with a history of fame stretching back 800 years.

Cycle Routes
The Circuit du Canal du Rhône au Rhin is 13 km long, takes 4 hours and 30 minutes, has little elevation gain, and is considered easy. On the Autrechêne–Novillard–Petit-Croix route, it passes through Autrechêne. The cycle route along the Canal du Rhône au Rhin uses the EuroVelo 6.
Culture
The Sentier du Chêne d’Autrage includes the remains of the “pont à l’estacade”. The trail also includes a traditional half-timbered farm in the Sundgau belfortain and an intermunicipal church.
The trail also features Mazarin-era boundary stones that marked the former possessions of a famous cardinal.
History
The oldest recorded mention of Eschêne dates from 1105 and appears in a charter concerning a land donation to Froidefontaine Priory. Autrage is mentioned for the first time in 1345 and had belonged to the parish of Novillard since at least that year. Rechotte is first mentioned in 1347; Froidefontaine Priory also owned land there.
