Polaincourt-Et-Clairefontaine: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Polaincourt-et-Clairefontaine combines the history of Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine Abbey with traces of the former Faïencerie de Clairefontaine. The abbey was founded in 1131 by Guy de Jonvelle. The abbey church of Clairefontaine already existed in 1175; that year, Étienne, Count of Traves and Auxonne, was buried there.

History

The development of the Faïencerie de Clairefontaine is also part of the historical picture of the town. Its production began in 1804, when its kiln was fired up. From 1876 to 1879, the faïencerie supplied white faience biscuitware to the artists Charles and Emile Gallé. It closed in 1932. The buildings of the former Faïencerie de Clairefontaine were converted into a psychiatric hospital in 1938. Today, only the abbey palace is a reminder of the Cistercian Abbey of Clairefontaine.

Polaincourt-et-Clairefontaine is home to Chez Nad, a grocery shop with a café area offering coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks. The Moulin Ruby is located 500 metres downstream on the Ruisseau de la Cité. It served as a workshop for grinding materials.

The historic site of Abbaye de Clairefontaine is located in the immediate vicinity of Polaincourt-et-Clairefontaine. In the wider region are the ruins of Abbaye de Droiteval and Abbaye de Cherlieu, as well as the historic site of Abbaye de Vaux-la-Douce.
