Culture
The upper courtyard of Château d’Oricourt contains buildings dating from the 12th and 15th centuries, a well, a cistern, a bakery, cellars and a large dining hall. The main tower is 25 metres high and overlooks the courtyards and moats, as well as the entrance to the castle.
At the foot of the rear tower, a staircase with so-called “mouse steps” leads to the wall walk; it is the only access route to it. The tower located between the two tall towers has a hexagonal floor plan and three loopholes, including one in the shape of a cross.
Next to the moats of Château d’Oricourt, a scaled-down reconstruction of a trebuchet is available. The restored castle chapel is located in the upper courtyard behind the keep and can be visited there. Its restoration uncovered original floor tiles and the base of the altar.
The dovecote of Château d’Oricourt still preserves a large part of its clay nests, boulins and honeycomb structures made of wattle covered with clay; its roof was restored in 1984.
