To the west, Santo-Pietro-di-Venaco is overlooked by Monte Cardo, which reaches an altitude of 2,453 metres. The village lies on an 860-metre-high promontory and is part of the Natura 2000 site FR9400578 “Massif du Rotondo”.
Culture
At the Petra Furnella quarry, the three-tiered quarry face is still visible. The quarry extracted blue Turquin marble and regularly produced slabs, skirting boards and paving stones, primarily for export.
The Chapelle Sant’Eliseu stands at an altitude of 1,555 metres. It houses wooden statues of Saint Elisée and Saint Sabine. On 29 August, the chapel is a pilgrimage site.
Trails
The Boucle Sant’Eliseu et Bergeries starts in Santo-Pietro-di-Venaco; the trailhead is at the car park above the washhouse behind the church. The trail follows a yellow-marked route towards the Chapelle Sant’Eliseu. Further along, heading east, the Boucle is marked in orange.
The Andatu Pasturecciu shepherds’ trail offers the opportunity to explore Santo-Pietro-di-Venaco’s agro-pastoral past.
