Nature
A path to the summit of Monti d’Ignascu is located within the municipality of Cuttoli-Corticchiato. It leads through chestnut trees and past endemic flowers to a viewpoint overlooking the Gulf of Ajaccio. From the summit, there are views of the Ajaccio basin, the Prunelli Valley and the Gravona Valley.
Paeonia corsica, a botanical species endemic to Corsica, grows on a slope of Monte d’Ignascu. It can be admired during its flowering period in May. Cuttoli-Corticchiato is also home to several chestnut trees of exceptional size.
Hiking and trails
The path to Punta di l’Alcudina reaches the 1,312-metre-high summit. The route starts in Pedi Muredda and leads via Punta San Petru. In good weather, the panorama from Punta di l’Alcudina also includes the Sanguinaires Islands.
A Stretta di i Mulini consists entirely of unpaved paths and is suitable for mountain biking, horse riding and hiking tours. In its first section, the Sentier du Patrimoine “A Stretta di i Mulini” follows a former mule track that led to watermills on the Funtanaccia stream.
Culture
A Stretta di i furnacci consists of six kilns for roof tiles and bricks, as well as a Genoese bridge that probably dates from the 17th century. The short circular route of A Stretta di i furnacci is 1.2 kilometres long and takes around 45 minutes. It can be started in Campianu or below Pedi Muredda.
The Church of San Martinu was rebuilt in the 19th century. Inside, there is a 14th-century marble holy-water font and a painting of the Virgin Mary.
Community life
Since 2012, the municipality of Cuttoli-Corticchiato has organised the event “I Scontri di a tupunimia”, the Days of Corsican Toponymy, every year.
