Culture
The Monument aux morts de la guerre 1914-1918 depicts an upright figure of a mobile guardsman standing in front of a pyramid-shaped stele. It was erected after the War of 1870 in honour of the Marne mobile guardsmen massacred in Passavant-en-Argonne in August 1870. During the First World War, German troops deliberately damaged the depicted figure’s face and right arm.
The Église de l’Exaltation de la Sainte Croix was completely rebuilt from 1750 onwards in the Flamboyant Gothic style. It uses two reused keystones with carved busts in the Renaissance style from the former church and has an 18th-century confessional originating from the Benedictine Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Argonne.
Crafts
La Ferme d’Argile in Passavant-en-Argonne offers tours and workshops. Visitors can prepare and bake bread in a wood-fired oven. There is also an introduction to working with clay, including modelling and working on the potter’s wheel.
The Faïencerie de Passavant is a family business that produces traditional Argonne faience. During a visit, demonstrations of throwing and decorating faience are offered.
Nature
The Circuit des gorges d’Argonne is listed as being 15.9 km long and is associated with Passavant-en-Argonne. The route is very hilly and leads through wooded landscapes; it also makes it possible to discover the Saint-Rouin hermitage.
