In the western part of the municipal area of Bignicourt-sur-Marne lies the ZNIEFF Type II natural area “Vallée de la Marne d’Isle-sur-Marne à Frignicourt”, which is bounded by the Marne. It encompasses floodplain habitats that remain rich in fauna and flora. The area comprises a mosaic of riparian woodland, marshy or flood-prone forests, tall-herb communities, large sedge beds, reed beds and aquatic plant communities of the river. The area around Bignicourt-sur-Marne also forms part of the Ramsar wetland “Étangs de la Champagne humide”, which has been recognised as a wetland of international importance since 5 April 1991 and provides a habitat for more than 200,000 waterbirds.

Culture
Bignicourt-sur-Marne is home to the Église Saint-Louvent. With its half-timbered façades, it preserves an architectural style characteristic of Perthois; thanks to the quality of the renovations carried out, it also has a remarkable charm. Near the Église Saint-Louvent, a war memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War of 1914–1918.
Hiking
In the Marne region, the GR® 145 “Via Francigena” runs from Berry-au-Bac via Lac du Der to Outines and is 172 kilometres long. In France, the GR® 145 is the French section of the medieval pilgrimage route Via Francigena and is signposted with the white-and-red GR® markings.
After crossing the Marne, a circular hiking route follows the river for 1,300 metres. A local hiking trail joins the GR® 145 and the GR® 654, the Way of St. James, in the direction of Neuville-sous-Arzillières. There are no shops along the hiking route, so you should bring water.
